Ye, born and better known as Kanye Omari West, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, and entrepreneur and producer of record label Roc-A-Fella Records. He is also well known for his many controversies, with the most recent being his various antisemitic comments in 2022, resulting in loss of sponsorships and partnerships, as well as overwhelming public backlash. [1]

Ye was born in Atlanta, Georgia and was raised in Chicago, Illinois. His parents divorced when he was three years old, he moved with his mother to Chicago, Illinois. West briefly lived in China while very young when his mother was teaching abroad.

He would release his release his first album, The College Dropout, in 2004, to instant acclaim by critics and listeners.[2] Ye would go on to release two more studio albums, Late Registration and Graduation, in 2005 and 2007 respectively. In 2008, he would release 808s & Heartbreak, which would go on to influence the hip-hop scene and influence artists such as Drake and Frank Ocean, who had just began their careers. After his infamous incident at the 2009 VMAs with Taylor Swift, Ye would take reclus e in Hawaii, and after a brief break, began recording what became My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The album would release in 2010, immediately receiving praise and would go on to be heralded as one of the best hip-hop albums of all time by critics.[3][4][5]

In 2013, he would release Yeezus, a more electronic and experimental album which combined Chicago drill, dancehall, acid house, and industrial music, and was desrbiced as "industrial".[6] Immediately after, Ye would begin working on a follow-up to the album, which would ultimately release as a very different album, The Life of Pablo, in 2016. Following his sudden cancellation of his Saint Pablo Tour, he would admit himself to the UCLA Medical Center. In 2018, he would release the 7-track album ye, and within that same year, announce his next album Yandhi,[7] which would never end up releasing as it was replaced with the Christian rap album JESUS IS KING,[8] released to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike.[9] This gospel theme would continue into his 2021 album, Donda, which would again be released in a very different form than originally planned. In 2022, a sequel to the album would be announced and controversially, was unofficially released off streaming platforms in an unfinished form.

Aside from his musical releases, Ye is also well known for his work in the fashion industry, collaborating with Nike, Adidas, Louis Vuitton, and more. His entrepreneurship is also notable, founding his record label GOOD Music in 2004, as well as his creative content company Donda in 2012. He has also ran for president, praised Adolf Hitler, an German dictator, created short films, among other ventures. Ye has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder[10], which he has repeatedly both denied and accepted[11], as well as suggested that he may be autistic.[12]
